Two of the Funniest Classics Ever!

CaddyShack (1980)

Danny Noonan is a young caddy at Bushwood Country Club who has no idea about where his future will lead. His best chance at getting his life on track is to earn a caddy scholarship from Judge Elihu Smails, the owner of the Country Club. Al Czervik is a rude, and overly eccentric millionaire who has interests in purchasing Bushwood. Judge Smails shows a quick disliking towards Al and soon there is a conflict between the Judge and Al, the Judge and Danny, and even between the Judge and Ty Webb the charming golfer who is slowly helping Danny figure out his real goals. On the outside of this is Carl Spackler the Golf Course Grounds keeper, who's goal is eliminate a rampaging gopher who is chewing up holes throughout the golf course.

Even though I grew up with this movie, every time I watch it I laugh as if it were my first. This movie is definitely one of my top 3 favorite movies (not just comedies) of all time. You can never go wrong with the humor found in this movie.

Weekend at Bernie’s (1989)

Two young men are trying to make their way in a corporation. One on charm, the other on hard work. When they go to the president (Bernie) with a serious financial error on a printout, he pretends to be thrilled and invites them to his beach house for the weekend. He actually plans on having them killed. Bernie is also fooling around with the girlfriend of his mafia partner. When the partner has Bernie killed, the boys end up having to pretend Bernie is still alive as the frustrated hit man tries time and time again to complete the job.

I first saw this movie at a young age and thought it was absolutely hysterical. The humor is provided by best friends that happen to be complete opposites. Opposites definitely attract and provide a great deal of laughs for throughout the movie. The sequel is worth catching as well.

Early Influences

Porky’s (1981)

Set in 1954, a group of Florida high school students seek to lose their virginity which leads them to seek revenge on a sleazy nightclub owner and his redneck sheriff brother for harassing them.

I have see this movie growing up at an impressionable age a few times, and then again when I was older. The laughs didn’t change. Any person can relate to the humor and good times in this movie.

Awards: Golden Reel Award- 1983

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

A high school wise guy is determined to have a day off from school, despite of what the principal thinks of that, by any means necessary.

No matter how old you are, you can definitely reminisce about the good ‘ol days of high school. The thought of ditching school to have a good time with friends was forever going through your mind. This was every student’s dream in high school, but fulfilled beyond our wildest beliefs.

Awards: Nominated for Golden Globe (1987)
